INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM
国際シンポジウム
Since FY2015 we have held two international symposiums open to the public. The second symposium (FY2016) was entitled, “Exhibiting Japan: Renewal and Renovation of Japanese Art Galleries.” Speakers from museums in Japan and abroad gathered to discuss recent renovations of Japanese art galleries at their respective institutions, the challenges that these renovations entailed, as well as plans for the future. The discussion also encompassed the over-arching questions of what an exhibition of Japanese art should achieve, whether it should present objects as artworks or cultural artifacts, and how these objects should be displayed for the public.
日本国内外の日本美術専門家による、一般公開のシンポジウムを2015年から開催しています。第２回目である今回のテーマは、「日本美術をみせる―リニューアルとリノベーション―」。主に近年改修や改築をした国内外のミュージアムより、各館の現状や課題、それに対する戦略や展望をうかがいました。そこには、「日本美術、あるいは日本文化の展示とは何か」、「展示室でみせるのは美術史なのか、芸術なのか」、そしてそれらを「どのようにみせるのか」という潜在的で普遍的な課題がありました。
